Crofts Gears is a South African manufacturer and distributor of industrial gear units, couplings and chain. We design and build gear units at our factory in Benoni, Gauteng, and supply customers across Southern Africa and internationally.

Crofts has been operating in South Africa since 1950. Our engineering roots go back to Crofts Engineers Ltd in Bradford, England, in the 1920s, which gives us more than 100 years of drive technology experience.

Yes. We design and manufacture our gear products under an ISO 9001 quality management system. In 1989, as Renold Crofts, our Benoni operation became the first South African gearbox manufacturer to achieve ISO 9001 certification. We are serious about upholding high quality standards and the safety of our people and operations.

Crofts Gears is the approved distributor of Renold engineered chain and power transmission products in Southern Africa.

Yes. We manufacture in Benoni, South Africa, and supply industrial gear units, geared motors, couplings, Gear Unit PowerPacks and spares to customers across Southern Africa and internationally. Send us your requirements and delivery location, and we will quote, including shipping.

We supply customers across Southern Africa and further afield e.g. Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, Europe, Americas, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Units are packed for road, sea or air freight and shipped with full export documentation to customer requirements.

Lead time depends on whether the unit is standard or custom, and on the delivery destination. We communicate the lead time with every quotation.

We manufacture bevel helical gear units including the heavy-duty RC Series, worm gear units and helical worm gear units, Ritespeed inline helical gear units, Cooling Tower, Agitator and Mixer gear units, geared motors, and Capstan Winch Units, in standard sizes and with custom modifications. A PowerPack is a complete drive system: gear unit, motor, couplings, base frame and safety guards, assembled and aligned as one package. PowerPacks are used on conveyors, winders, crushers, mills and other heavy-duty drives, with output torque of up to 315 kNm.

Yes. We are a solutions-driven company and work with you to find a drop-in replacement solution that supports your production requirements, aiming for little or no modification to your plant. We look at matching the mounting dimensions, shaft positions and dimensions, and ratio of your existing gearbox.

We manufacture and supply rigid and flexible industrial couplings, including Crofts Crown pin couplings, Crofts Flexible MB Gear Couplings, Renold Hi-Tec rubber-in-compression couplings, Renold Hydrastart fluid couplings and sprag clutches. Because they are made locally, they can be customised to your requirements.

Yes. We supply Renold engineered and conveyor chain, transmission chain, and solution chain, and sprockets. We are the approved distributor for Renold in Southern Africa.

Yes. Our repairs and refurbishment team repairs industrial gear units of any make, restoring them to OEM specifications.

Yes. We hold the original South African Crofts designs, so we can supply spares for, repair and refurbish older Crofts and Renold Crofts units still in service.

It depends on the condition of the unit and the parts needed. We assess the unit first and give you a quotation and turnaround time.
